Meet Marketfair
Blog by J U Gain
The school holidays has brought about planning for things to do that both myself and the kids will enjoy. Marketfair is one of my favourite places to visit, with over 200 stallholders under one roof you have a mixture of Vintage, Handmade, Local Artists and Collectors.
The love of vintage for me started young. A love hate relationship that grew from the bonding experiences of exploring vintage shops around New Zealand with my grandparents, added to the fact that all the women on my mothers side of the family are vintage collectors of Royal Albert Collections. You can’t visit any of them without having a cup of tea from their prized collection.
Here is a small feature of some of my favourite stalls in Marketfair ! I can’t wait to interview more stallholders in depth and bring their story to life, showing you a side of the entrepreneurs journey for many of us. There is more to it for us then buying a random piece of vintage, or sliver of soap, or pretty jewellery.
Getting to know the owners behind the scenes of how much goes into creating mood boards from middle of the night ideas, how many hours go into sourcing, crafting, design and marketing. An artist is more then just the dreamer, we are the creators, the parent, the cleaner, the designer, the marketer, the builder. There are many hats that we wear to bring you our passions.
Buying from Market spaces, you support a dream, a family and that persons freedom to live creatively.

Their stall stands out at Marketfair, the wooden shelving, their layout, the design display, the sign, vibe and energy in the space they have created. That’s how I feel, I step into their store and the energy feels soo good. I want to encompass it. Its something knowing. 9. barking dog vintage
All I can say about this store is WOW. The craftsmanship into each design, is amazing. Taking old vintage cameras and clocks, they are then turned into working industrial style lamps.
Taking old war time ammo cases and turning it into a bluetooth speaker, a vintage weston voltage metre becomes a one of a kind lamp. This is a fascinating shop, the history alone of every piece that is used is a marvel. Worth checking out, click the links below to follow and shop!

10. The Hazelnut Tree
I can not put it into better words then what Hazel has said on her website.
“My aim is to handcraft and sell soaps that are of outstanding quality and beauty with natural ingredients. You won’t find any animal fats, palm oil, artificial colours/fragrances or preservatives in my soap. I use only plant or clay based colours and natural exfoliants.
I use the cold-process method of soap making, which means my soaps retain their natural glycerin making them rich and luxurious on your skin. They won't strip your skin of its natural oils or leave your skin feeling tight and dry. Because each batch is mixed, poured and cut by hand, each soap is unique.”
